MGS 8020 Business Intelligence
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
Getting Started
Once you installed Microsoft SQL Server
Management Studio 18 on your computer, you need to connect to your Local
Database.
- Connect
to Server (Local Database)

For Windows 10, please open Microsoft SQL Server
Management Studio 18. Programs /
Microsoft SQL Server Tools 18 / Microsoft SQL
Server Management Studio 18.
- Server Name:
<Your Computer Name>\SQLEXPRESS

Authentication:
Windows Authentication
-
User Name:
<Your
Computer Name>\<user name>
In general, the user name is
greyed out OR it's your
last name and first name
initial.

Please choose
Connect.

Create New Database
-
Select Database
and right click your mouse. Select
New
Database.

Enter MGS8020
as the new database name and select OK.

Your MGS8020 database has been created. You can
expand Databases and you should be able to find
MGS8020.

Create New Table(s)
-
Download
data file for your Case Study 3.

Perform Import and
Export Data Programs /
Microsoft SQL Server 2014 / Import and Export
Data (32-bit). if you're using Windows 8,
please search Import and
Export Data

Welcome to SQL Server Import and
Export Wizard. Select
Next

Choose a Data Source:
-
Select
Microsoft Excel
as your Data
Source. Please
specify the path
for your data
file.

The Excel
version is
Microsoft Excel
2007

Please ensure
first rows has
column names

Choose a Destination:
-
Keep the default
Destination and
Server Name

Use Windows
Authentication
-
Select
MGS8020
as your Database
- Specify Table Copy or Query:
Copy data from one or more
tables or views. Select
Next
- Select Source Tables and
Views: Change the Destination
name(s) to the followings and
select
Next
- [dbo].[GPA]
- [dbo].[Student]
- Run Immediately. Select
Next
- Select
Close
- Go to SQL Server Management Studio. You can
expand Databases and you should be able to find
MGS8020.
- Select Table and right click
your mouse and select Refresh
- You should be able to find [dbo].[GPA]
and [dbo].[GPA]
